If you want to have a harmonious environment that is pleasant to the eye, one of the rules is to never combine more than three colours in the same room. The combination of four colours or more gives a sense of confusion, clutter and sometimes even discomfort.
In order to combine three colours without fear of being wrong, the key is to play with tones. Imagine your main colour being pale blue, it will be easy to harmonize it with an intermediate blue 2 shades darker and adding accents of darker blue or even accents of a complementary colour like yellow or orange.
