Each year, BESTAR improves its processes and carries out projects that aim to reduce the amount of material sent to landfills.

• For a number of years, we have been selling our cardboard, clear plastic, polystyrene, iron, and wood chips waste to companies that recycle these materials to create new products.
• To minimize our impact on the environment, we ensure the proper recovery of our batteries, fluorescent bulbs, oils and solvent, and wash water.
• About half of our plant waste (dry materials other than sawdust which is 100% reused) is used for thermal upgrading.
• In 2010, new recycling bins will be installed in the factory for all recyclables. In addition, composting is being implemented through an initiative supported by the Municipality of Lac-Mégantic.
